Narrowly defeating previous world champion, Frenchman Julien Absalon, in a sprint finish the Swiss rider was the first of 2 from the country on the podiun in the elite mens race. The first Aussie was Chris Jongewaard, in 15th, proving that Australia needs to improve its national mountain bike program to accomodate for the high quality racing in Europe.
